Private jet charter and flights to Rwanda

Two decades after its civil war, Rwanda is not only moving on, it’s thriving. The country’s 1994 genocide will never be forgotten, but this is a country that’s embracing a positive future and the Rwanda of today is a stable and welcoming holiday destination. Travellers come here to spend time in the company of the endangered mountain gorillas that inhabit the misty slopes of Volcanoes National Park, and leave with memories of the rolling hills and warm people. Air Charter Service can help you charter flights to Rwanda so you can enjoy more time discovering this enchanting country and less time queueing in airports. Let our experienced team charter you a private jet so that your exclusive experience begins the moment you leave home.

Most visitors begin and end their trip in the peaceful and picturesque hillside capital of Kigali, located in the centre of the country. Highlights here include the Genocide Memorial Centre (heart-wrenching, but a must for first-time visitors), the Natural History Museum and various local arts and craft galleries. Kigali also has some cool little coffee shops for sampling Rwanda’s excellent local brew.

Rwanda’s main draw lies along its north-western border, where around 480 habituated mountain gorillas reside in the Virunga Mountains’ bamboo forest and tropical rainforest. The chance to glimpse a rare silverback gorilla in the wild is an ultimate wildlife-viewing experience. The Rwandan side of the mountains – which straddle the borders of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda – is called Volcanoes National Park. Celebrated naturalist Dian Fossey carried out much of her gorilla research here and today the area is home to 10 gorilla families. Permits cost around £2,200 per person and with numbers limited to eight people per group and only one trek to each gorilla family per day, this is an exclusive and sustainable experience.

Head south from Volcanoes National Park and you’ll arrive at Lake Kivu. This great lake’s waterfront towns are ideal for a peaceful time-out, drinking in the views and unwinding on the lake shore. Gisenyi, at the north of lake, has sandy beaches and a relaxed vibe. It’s also the start point for the Congo Nile Trail – a real off-the-beaten-track adventure and one of Africa’s best biking trails. Rwanda is known as the ‘Land of a Thousand Hills’ for good reason; you’ll need to set aside at least five days to take on the numerous hills, valleys, tea plantations and coves of this scenic 140-mile lakeside trail. Further down the lake, around its mid-way point, Kibuye is an attractive hillside city with an almost alpine feel.

In the south of the country, Nyungwe Forest cements Rwanda’s status as a rich primate habitat. Home to around 500 chimps, the most popular activity here is chimpanzee trekking, however the mountainous rainforest landscape is also inhabited by huge troupes of black and white colobus monkeys, mangabey monkeys, owl monkeys and the elusive L'Hoest's monkey. As well as chimpanzee calls, the sound of the forest is dominated by birdsong and over 310 species of bird have been recorded here. Plant-lovers also flock to Nyungwe to see over 100 types of orchid and giant lobelia.

Though much of the accommodation in Rwanda is of a simple standard, it does have some surprising luxury gems. At One&Only Nyungwe House, nestled in the mountains at the edge of the Nyungwe Forest, the infinity pool appears to float in the forest canopy; and for gorilla trekking there’s no better base than the boutique Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge.
