CITY GUIDE KUALA LUMPUR

Private jet charter to Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur is Malaysia’s cosmopolitan capital – a bewitching blend of colonial, traditional and modern sky-high architecture infused with diverse Malay, Indian and Chinese cultures. ‘KL’ is a walkable city that’s best explored on foot for two key reasons: to avoid the traffic chaos and avoid missing out on the delicious street food stalls. Get a fast quote from Air Charter Service to charter a private to Kuala Lumpur and experience it for yourself.

The city’s most famous attraction soars over its skyline. At 451 metres and 88 storeys high, the Petronas Towers are the world’s tallest twin skyscrapers. This pair of futuristic silvery steel-clad skyscrapers comprises five tiers to represent the five pillars of Islam. Visitors can buy tickets to experience the sky-bridge and observation deck, but the view is just as impressive looking at the towers as from them, particularly at night when they’re beautifully illuminated. The 421-metre-high, spire-like Menara KL Tower is another punctuation on the city’s skyline and its observation deck offers excellent views towards the Petronas Towers and the mountains beyond. The remainder of the city’s skyline is a diverse mix of mosques and temples, colonial buildings and megamalls.

Shopping is a big deal in Kuala Lumpur. Its megamalls are some of the city’s biggest attractions, and not just for tourists. Live like a local and take your credit card to Pavilion KL – a seven-storey air-conditioned mall hosting over 450 stores, a huge food court and entertainment options – and Suria KLCC, a glitzy upmarket shopping centre located beneath the Petronas Towers. The malls stay open until late in the evening for maximum retail therapy time. For sightseeing, head to the temples, shop-houses and coffee shops of Chinatown and the night markets of Little India, while for historic charm amid the skyscrapers, visit the city’s colonial district centred around Merdeka Square.

KL’s street food stalls are among the best in South-East Asia; a mouth-watering mix of Malay, Indian and Chinese flavours blended with lots of coconut milk, chilli, lemongrass and kaffir lime. All around the city, hawker stalls beckon with the aroma of freshly-cooked laksa, nasi lemak, banana leaf rice and satay. Join the locals and head to the nearest roadside ‘Ramly burger’ stall for a city favourite: the egg-wrapped burger. A visit to a traditional kopitiam – one of KL’s old-school coffee shops – is also a must. At the end of the day, rest your head at one of the city’s swish skyscraper hotels.
