CITY GUIDE SAN FRANCISCO

There’s something about San Francisco that makes it a destination that pulls visitors back time and time again. Whether it’s the iconic attractions such as Alcatraz and the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, the great shopping districts or the quirky bohemian neighbourhoods, whether you’re a first timer, or a regular, you’ll find something new. For your chance to enjoy the bay area, get a private jet hire quote from Air Charter Service.

San Francisco has plenty of big sights to ensure first time visitors have something to fit into their itineraries. The Golden Gate Bridge is probably one of the most recognisable bridges in the world, spanning the area between the Golden Gate Area and Marin County. Where you drive, walk or cycle, you’re in for some outstanding views. Next up is Alcatraz, as portrayed in movies such as Escape from Alcatraz and The Birdman of Alcatraz, a tour of this former prison, now museum, is a must do. You can walk around the outside, into the prison and see the original cells, mess hall and library used by the prison inmates. Infamous inmates such as Al Capone, George ‘Machine Gun’ Kelly and Robert Stroud, The Birdman of Alcatraz all spent time on ‘The Rock’. If you can, try to get up to Telegraph Hill and the Coit Tower in North Beach, and the Civic Center area.

For shopping, wining and dining, Fisherman’s Wharf is another popular area of San Francisco. Close to Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge, it’s included in approx. 75% of itineraries for visitors to San Francisco and is where you’ll find Pier 39, home to plenty of great shops, restaurants and bars. This is especially ideal for those looking for souvenirs. There are also plenty of lounging sea lions, fishing boats and opportunities to take a cruise round the bar. Union Square is another great spot for shopping, visiting the theatre or simply popping into one of the cafes for a coffee. Also well worth doing is heading to Chinatown or Little Italy for something to eat and to soak up their vibrant atmosphere.

San Francisco has no shortage of places to stay. From quirky boutique hotels, to high-end opulent retreats, there is something to suit every traveller. The Four Seasons San Francisco is one of the best for those travelling with kids, as everything is larger than life and space is easy to come by. For something a little more stylish Hotel Des Arts is right next to Chinatown and Downtown, whilst Hotel Del Sol offers 10 retro-themed suites which are sure to delight. There’s also Hotel Kabuki offering guests a typical Japanese experience, whilst the W San Francisco and Sir Francis Drake Hotel offer you the best in cutting-edge and traditional opulent hotel stays.
