Soak up the glamour during awards season

Awards season has kick-started! Join us for a look at when, where and who has won at the biggest nights in Hollywood, and who’s set to win next.

Screen Actors Guild Awards

Following the Golden Globes was the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards on January 21. Lauded by critics for their style and genuine warmth, the SAG awards have quickly grown into one of the industry’s most prestigious honors since their inaugural ceremony in 1995. Hosted by actress Kristen Bell, 13 awards are presented for outstanding film and television performances. This year, Frances McDormand took home the award for “Female Actor in a Leading Role” for her portrayal of Mildred Hayes in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, while Gary Oldman won “Male Actor in a Leading Role”.

The 60th Grammy Awards

The week following the SAG awards saw the Grammys return to New York City for the 60th installment of the biggest night in music and entertainment. Stunning performances from Lady Gaga and Kesha brought the house down, while Bruno Mars took home six awards including “Album of the Year” and “Record of the Year” for 24K Magic, making him the biggest winner of the night. Other winners included Ed Sheeran for “Best Pop Vocal Album” and “Best Pop Solo Performance”, and Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna for their song Loyalty.

The Academy Awards

As awards season continues, the next big ceremony is the Academy Awards, more commonly known as the Oscars, which returns to Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles on March 4. The most acclaimed film awards ceremony on the globe is comprised of 24 categories and returns this year for its 90th instalment. Fighting for “Best Actress in a Leading Role” are SAG award winner Frances McDormand, Meryl Streep and Margot Robbie for her role as villainous figure skater Tonya harding in I, Tonya (2017).

Making up the nominations for “Best Picture”, arguably the most-coveted Academy Award, are the critically acclaimed Darkest Hour, Call Me By Your Name, Dunkirk and Get Out amongst others. While the night’s winners have yet to be announced, one thing is certain: as the world’s biggest red carpet event, the 2018 Oscars is set to be best one yet.

iHeartradio Music Awards

The last awards of this season are the iHeartRadio Music Awards, returning to The Forum in Los Angeles on March 11. iHeartRadio have remained predictively tight-lipped about the evening’s performers, but what we can speculate is that much like previous years, the headliners are likely to include the singers with the most nominations. Up for five gongs apiece this year are Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Camila Cabello and DJ Khaled, so performances from one or two of these world-class artists should be expected.
