After a magical sunset visit to the Taj Mahal, admiring its iconic domes in the changing morning light, take a private jet to the “Pink City” of Jaipur in Rajasthan. Here you’ll stay for two nights in Oberoi Rajvilas, a characterful luxury hotel peacefully located on the outskirts of the city. In the evening you’ll be driven to Amber Fort, a magnificent yellow-and-pink sandstone palace complex, to witness a famous sound and light show against the backdrop of the fort’s rocky walls. Afterwards, you’ll tour the palace’s intricately designed chambers and hallways, marvelling at highlights including an imposing gateway painted with the images of the elephant-headed god, Ganesh.

The next morning you’ll tour the City Palace, which is still home to Jaipur’s royal family, perusing the costumes and armory of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh and admiring valuable manuscripts in the grand Hall of Public Audience. Then it’s on to Jantar Mantar, an 18th-century astro-observatory and UNESCO World Heritage Site, which houses 20 fascinating large-scale astronomical instruments.

Here you’ll spend two nights at the Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace, a majestic sandstone monument that sits in peacock-filled grounds above the city. After a free afternoon to relax at the hotel or explore independently, there’s an optional a camel safari over the dunes for Champagne sundowners before enjoying dinner in the desert.

The following day, you’ll discover Jodhpur’s highlights on a half-day tour of this intoxicating city –starting with the majestic Mehrangarh Fort, which is prized for its sprawling courtyards, intricate carvings and beautiful palaces, before moving onto the lakeside marble memorial to Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. Next it’s on to Jodhpur’s historic heart, where you can wander around the narrow alleys of Sardar Market shopping for brightly-coloured clothing, silver trinkets and handicrafts.

Your base for the next two nights is another Oberoi property, the Oberoi Udaivilas, which perches on the opposite side of the lake in a glorious waterside setting. Your Udaipur experience begins with a magical evening cruise through the lake’s mystical waters, taking in stunning views of the city.

The next day begins with a morning city tour, visiting the City Palace with its dramatic façade, paintings, mosaics and intricately carved ‘chhatris’. The palace is also home to a rare crystal collection ordered from England by Maharana Sajjan Singh in 1877. The tour ends with a visit to a vintage and classic car collection, which includes a Rolls Royce, 1939 Cadillac open convertibles, rare Mercedes models and a 1936 Vauxhall. The afternoon can either be spent enjoying the hotel’s pool and spa or visiting a local market with the hotel’s chef to buy fresh produce and spices for a cookery lesson.
