What You Need to Know About the Goodwood Revival 2017

The heyday of the Goodwood Circuit spanned from 1948 to 1966. During this time, the circuit was one of Britain’s premier destinations for motor racing, drawing the top drivers from around the world. In 1966, the track was closed when the owners deemed the modern cars too fast for the circuit.

The Goodwood Revival was first held in September of 1998, when the Earl of March drove the circuit in the same Bristol 400 that his grandfather, the 9th Duke of Richmond, used to open the track in 1948. Since then, the event has become the most popular historic racing event of its kind. A total of 14 races are held over the weekend, allowing guests to see the rare cars in all their glory.

While the event is focused on the historic cars, of course – many of which are a collector’s fantasy – it’s really all about the fashion. While period dress is not required, dressing up is an essential part of the experience. Ladies can be seen wearing pencil skirts, jackets and stylish hats, and the gentlemen don officers’ uniforms and country tweeds. But it’s completely up to you, so take the theme and run with it. Anything from 1948-1966 will fly, and the best renditions have a chance of winning the Best Dressed Competition.

Guests looking for a lively experience can buy tickets in the Goodwood Mess, where singer and actors add to the jovial atmosphere. The Goodwood Mess is located next to the assembly area, where guests can watch the cars being prepped and see them fly across the finish line. Tickets cost £690 for Friday, £690 for Saturday and £636 for Sunday. The package includes trackside seating, breakfast, a Champagne reception, a four-course buffet lunch with wine and a traditional afternoon tea.

Those looking for a more civilized setting can purchase tickets in the Supershell, a vintage 1950s-era building that is an iconic element of the Goodwood Circuit. With a view of the thrilling Woodcote corner, one of the fastest corners of the race, the Supershell offers one of the best vantage points in the house.
